Welcome to Huron Township

Huron Township formed in 1827 is one of the oldest townships in the State of Michigan. Originally it encompassed what are now the City of Romulus and the Township of Sumpter and Van Buren.

Currently the township covers a more traditional 36 square miles and rests comfortably in the southwest corner of Wayne County. Huron Township has a long tradition of being on agricultural area with many fine apple orchards and working farms. It has the distinction of having three unincorporated villages within its borders - Willow, Waltz and New Boston. It currently has a population of around 18,000 residents.

According to the most recent master plan, 58% of the current land use represents agriculture, estate residential, rural residential or vacant. Because of this the township decided to form a LDFA in order to help diversify its land use.

In 1989 the Township Board of Trustees created their first LDFA located along Bell Road and South Huron Road. This area was chosen because of its easy on and easy off access to I-275 and land availability. The LDFA has been successful in attracting many fine businesses into the community and looks forward to continued growth.

In early 2002 the Huron Township Board of Trustees approved expanding the LDFA are to include an area near South Huron and Mercer Drive.

In December of 2002 the Huron Township Board of Trustees created a second area called LDFA II for the Sibley Road, Pennsylvania Road and Vining Road area. The current LDFA Board has jurisdiction over both areas. This area has been designated by Wayne County for the Pinnacle Project. The current master plan by the county offers a wide range of opportunities for businesses.
